To Thrive or Not To Thrive...

That is the question. Though, the question might be "Boy or Girl?"... so hard to say right now. All I know is that Chibi and Cal (who had bigger heads at the start) are getting chubby, and Ami and Pastel (who had smaller heads at the beginning) are skinny little birds which is causing me great anxiety! Get fat, little birds... Or, you know, not fat fat, but healthy and robust, ya know?

If it's just a matter of being girls or boys, that's fine. People have told me boy baby turkeys have thicker legs and bigger feet than girls. If that's true, Cal is our only boy. However, if stature-head-size-ratio means something, then Cal and Chibi are both boys, and Ami and Pastel are girls. Or vice versa.

Pastel is so busy trying to be boss-chick and fighting everyone down that she doesn't take time enough to eat, methinks. Ami is the opposite. She's so passive that if any of the other babies so much as suggest that they want the food she's eating, she will nonchalantly back down and wander off. Who needs food, anyway? Uhm, YOU DO, Ami. EAT. No skinny birds in this flock, thanks. Skinny birds don't thrive...

So I hand fed Ami and Pastel today. I will continue to do so until they pick up some weight. I wet the food down so it'd be a little more tempting than usual. The tactic worked. Afterwards, they all lined up for a happy little nap.

It's a perfect little lineup, really.
They did that themselves.

They are all getting bigger. Just as Doodle before them, they doubled in size on their birthday week-a-versary. Turkeys blow me away with how they do that. One day, tiny and fluffy. The next day, marking a full 7 days since the day they hatched, POOF. Bigger. How...?

Ami

Cal

Chibi

Pastel

SO fluffy *heartheartheat* !! But, do you know who is not fluffy? Doodle. Doodle is steadily getting less and less fluffy every day. And more and more like the offspring of a Velociraptor and a feather duster...

Rawr.

I still see cute. Not sure if it's "only-a-mother-could-love" syndrome or if I truly can see the beauty of turkeys now. But she still looks lovely and adorable to me!

Look at those eyes, that colour... Doodle is gorgeous <3

  1. LOL! The resemblance between the raptor and the duster to Doodle is striking, really!
